I’m a personal trainer and I specialize in fitness over the age of 50. I would argue with anyone that a sedentary lifestyle is the leading cause of most of the aches and pains associated with aging.
I’ve seen first hand people of all ages who complain of back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, and many other physical and mental aliments get better when they get up and start to exercise on a regular basis. I have a client in his 60s who had been getting steroid shots in his lower back for years recently tell me that he hasn’t needed another shot since he started working out with me over two years ago.
It’s my belief that there’s no medication in the world that is as beneficial to your mind and body as daily activity and exercise. A routine as simple as a 30 minute walk each day combined with two strength training sessions each week can slow down and even reverse the negative effects of aging. 1. Exercise controls weight
Exercise can help prevent excess weight gain or help maintain weight loss. When you engage in physical activity, you burn calories. The more intense the activity, the more calories you burn.
Regular trips to the gym are great, but don’t worry if you can’t find a large chunk of time to exercise every day. To reap the benefits of exercise, just get more active throughout your day — take the stairs instead of the elevator or rev up your household chores. Consistency is key.
